FAQs

What do I bring?:  The boat provides bottled water and snacks. Recommended items would include sunscreen, UV clothing and hats, drinks (alcohol is allowed), additional food as desired.

Seasickness:  Kona waters are some of the smoothest in the world. The Big Island's magnificent volcanoes block the prevailing trade winds, which accounts for the calm water 90% of the time.

What to expect:  Kona is the Blue Marlin capital of the world. Additionally, Kona waters are also a great fishery for Ahi, Mahi, Short-bill Spearfish, Ono, and Stripped Marlin. Captain Borges will adjust to the fishing conditions in an attempt to increase your fishing excitement. Fishing is mostly done by trolling lures.

“Kona Dream” will make every effort to tag and release all Blue Marlin. An exception would be if the fish succumbs in the fight. In this unlikely event, please know that nothing goes to waste. Harvested Blue Marlin are provided to the local community to be smoked, made into sausage, or poke. If the catch is a marlin over an estimated 500 lbs, the tag and release of that fish is at the Captain's discretion. These are magnificent fish and we want them to fight another day!

Where is the boat located?:  Kona Dream is in Slip J38 at Honokohau Harbor (74-380 Kealakehe Parkway, Kailua-Kona HI 96740) See Map on Contact page.
