Born and raised in Kona, Captain David Borges Jr. has spent his life fishing the waters of HawaiÊ»i and pursuing big-game fish around the world, including Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and Madeira. David has captained the Kona Dream since 2020, combining local knowledge, international experience, and a competitive drive to consistently put anglers on fish. Under David’s leadership, Kona Dream has built an impressive tournament record, winning the 2021 Big Island Marlin Tournament, the 2024 Marlin Magic Lures Tournament with a 592-pound Pacific blue marlin, and the 2026 Big Island Marlin Tournament, highlighted by a 683-pound Pacific blue marlin. Whether chasing a trophy blue marlin or introducing guests to Kona sportfishing, David brings experience, professionalism, and a lifelong passion for fishing to every charter.

Kona Dream owners Dave and Janet Andersen are full-time Kona residents whose passion for big-game fishing began here more than 25 years ago.
Kona Dream is a two-time Big Island Marlin Tournament champion, winning in 2021 and again in 2026. In 2026, Kona Dream captured the title with a 683-lb blue marlin, while also releasing two additional blues and finishing with the most points in the tournament. Dave and Janet continue their passion for Kona sportfishing aboard Kona Dream, a 38’ Buddy Davis, with Captain David Borges and crew—sharing the excitement of fishing one of the world’s legendary big-game fisheries with anglers from around the world.
